He joined FC Politehnica in the summer of 2005, from fellow Divizia A side FC Naţional Bucureşti. He has also played for the Brisbane Strikers in Australia.

McKain signed for the Wellington Phoenix for the 2008-2009 A-League season.[1] Despite several injuries McKain maintained good form when fit. On 14 June 2010, McKain signed a one year renewable contract for Al-Nassr to be added to Walter Zenga squad.[2]

After his stint in the Middle East, McKain was released by Al-Nassr and returned to Australia, and signed a contract with South Australian club Adelaide United in the A-League.[3]

In August 2011, McKain was named as Adelaide's captain ahead of the 2011-12 A-League season[4]. In round 12 of the A-league Jon McKain gave up his captainacy. He was replaced by Eugene Galeković.

International career

He has represented Australia and made three appearances at the 2005 Confederations Cup in Germany. He also represented Australia at the 2004 Olympics.
